AT JOFFREY BALLET SCHOOLOpen Classes at the Joffrey Ballet School offers drop-in, in-person classes at our studios in New York City. Students have the opportunity to train in a variety of styles and techniques, open to dancers beginner through professional.

The Basic Beginner level is designed for adults who have a passion and desire to learn ballet but have no prior dance experience. The classes provide a welcoming and friendly environment, with individualized instruction and attention to introduce the fundamentals of ballet. Dancers will learn the basic body positions, core ballet exercises, proper body alignment, and more!

This beginner level is for adults who have a basic understanding of the foundations of ballet. These concepts are incorporated into a full ballet class with exercises at the barre in the center, and moving across the floor. The core emphasis of this level will be on understanding and improving proper alignment, posture, rotation, and flexibility. Dancers will also expand their ballet vocabulary while learning new movements and positions.

This is the perfect level of dancers who are serious about their training and have many years of experience in ballet. This class will move at a much quicker pace, offering complex combinations both at the barre and in the center. Dancers will be exposed to more advanced and diverse exercises, challenging them to elevate their level of training. At this level, dancers should begin to explore and develop their artistry, musicality, and epaulement.

This class is designed for those who taken ballet classes with our Adult Program faculty and have been assessed and approved for pointe by instructor of the class. Classes will draw upon previously learned ballet technique, with students working at the barre, in center, and across the floor en pointe. All adults must attend an adult ballet class prior to taking the pointe class.

The variation class is an opportunity to learn classical ballet variations from famous repertoire ballets such as Giselle, Swan Lake, Nutcracker, and many others!
This class is designed for dancers with a clear understanding of the foundational elements of ballet. These concepts will be reviewed and studied while learning the variation, and then performed in the center.
Dancers must take Beginner Intermediate Ballet with Stephanie Godino at 2:30 p.m. in order to participate in the Ballet Classical Variation class. Dancers may take this class en pointe or in flat ballet shoes.

This class is perfect for dancers interested in the learning the fundamentals of jazz dance. Students will learn to fine-tune varying styles of jazz movement, with an emphasis on musicality, dynamics, and isolation of the body. Each class begins with a warm-up, where each exercise is taught and broken-down in clear detail, followed by learning a piece of choreography.

Special Rates
- Dancers over age 60, professional dancers, and dance educators receive 10% off all classes and class packages.

Dress Code
Students may wear any form-fitting apparel they can comfortably move in, such as a leotard and tights or a tank top or t-shirt with exercise pants or leggings. Baggy clothing and excessive jewelry is not allowed. Ballet shoes are mandatory for ballet classes.
Refund Policy & Extensions
Students arriving 15 minutes late or more will be denied entry to the class and will not be eligible for a refund.
All tuition fees are 100% non-refundable. All sales are final. Transfer of tuition fee to another class is permissible if notification is provided in writing to [email protected]. Requests to transfer fee to another class must be communicated two (2) hours prior to the start of class. Notification submitted after this deadline will be considered at the discretion of the Joffrey Ballet School.

A one-time only 30-day extension is available within one year of the purchase date for a fee. All remaining classes in the package must be extended at the same time. Fees are as follows:

Liability Waiver
In consideration of Joffrey Ballet School's delivery of dance instruction to you and your expectation of receiving such instruction evidenced by your entry upon the property of Joffrey Ballet School and/or off-site location being used by Joffrey Ballet School, and your purchase of dance classes, you agree and acknowledge that:
You are not aware of any medical condition you have or are suffering from that should preclude you from participating in dance activities. You understand there is a definitive risk of injury associated with dancing and that such injuries include, but are not limited to bruises, dislocations, broken bones, torn or damaged muscles and ligaments, paralysis, and even death. You understand that such injuries may be caused in whole or in partly by yourself, or by the actions or inactions of other students or instructors. You also agree to carefully follow the instructors’ directions, to ask for additional directions if I do not understand any particular activity, and to immediately stop any activity that you believe you are not competent or confident enough to perform.
The waiver, release, and other representations and covenants set forth herein are given in consideration for Joffrey permitting you and/or your child or ward to enter onto Joffrey premises, take a class at a Joffrey location or via remote learning, or otherwise participate in any Joffrey event.

Pre-Register for an In-Person Class
View our online schedule and pre-register for an in-person class. Pre-registration is mandatory.
Prepare for your Arrival
Arrive at Joffrey Ballet School no earlier than 15 minutes prior to the start of your class. If you arrive earlier, you will be asked to wait outside. Hallways and lobbies will not be open as a gathering or warm-up space.
At the 3rd Floor office, a Joffrey staff member will check you in for class. You will no longer need to show proof of vaccination or a completed Health Screening Form.
Come dressed and prepared to dance. Our dressing rooms will be open for restroom use only. Showers and changing areas are closed to avoid congregation.

At the end of class, we kindly ask dancers to exit the studios as quickly as possible.
FAQ & Information
Students may wear any form-fitting apparel they can comfortably move in, such as a leotard and tights or a tank top or t-shirt with exercise pants or leggings. Baggy clothing and excessive jewelry is not allowed. Ballet shoes are mandatory for ballet classes.
A majority of our open classes are taught in a hybrid format, in-person to students in the studio, as well as those joining virtually. Instructors are equipped with a microphone to ensure the best sound quality, in-person and remotely.
Classes not conducive to remote learning will be offered exclusively in person. This includes pointe classes.
Our dressing rooms will be open for restroom use only. Showers and changing areas are closed.
Our water station has been reopened in the 3rd Floor Lobby.
WHAT JOFFREY BALLET SCHOOL IS DOING
- All faculty and staff of the Joffrey Ballet School are fully vaccinated.
- Staggered arrivals and departure times are built into our schedule.
- Commonly-touched surfaces are frequently sanitized throughout the day.
- Studios are disinfected between alternating groups, as well as at the end of each day.
- Proper ventilation, together with our HEPA Air Filtration system, will be maintained at all times.

WHAT YOU CAN DO
- Frequently wash your hands.
- Maintain a safe distance of at least 6 feet, whenever possible.
- Follow our policies to ensure a safe environment for all students, faculty, and staff.
Attendance/Cancelation for Open Classes
Refund Policy: All tuition fees are 100% non-refundable. All sales are final. Students arriving 15 minutes late or more will be denied entry to the class and will not be eligible for a refund.
Cancelation: Students may cancel without penalty by contacting the Joffrey Ballet School a minimum of two (2) hours prior to the start of class.
Transfer of tuition fee to another class is permissible if notification is provided in writing to [email protected]. Requests to transfer fees to another class must be communicated two (2) hours prior to the start of class. Notification submitted after this deadline will be considered at the discretion of the Joffrey Ballet School.
Any class canceled by the Joffrey Ballet School will automatically be credited back to a student’s account. Notification will be sent via email.
Late Cancellations/No Shows: If the school is not contacted, or a student does not arrive for class, the student will lose the class and it will not be returned to their account. Students arriving 15 minutes late or more will be denied entry to the class and will not be eligible for a refund.
We are unable to provide a refund or credit for any late-canceled classes. (These are cancellations made by a student within 2 hours of the start of the reserved class.) A fee will not be charged for these late-canceled classes.

For the benefit of all dancers, we appreciate timely arrival for classes. In order to avoid disruption, students will not be admitted more than 15 minutes after the scheduled start time (live or virtual).
